Hello everyone,
I’m Thamarai, a biocentric architect from Chennai, and I want to share a story about a day that completely changed my perspective on my profession and the people within it. It’s a story about a well-planned surprise that transformed a business event into a beautiful human connection.
Like many women in my field, I’ve navigated the professional world with its endless demands and busy schedules. Finding time to genuinely connect with peers and vendors—the people we rely on to bring our designs to life—is often a struggle. So, when I was invited to an "Archconnect" event hosted by the CNI, I expected a regular networking session—a few handshakes, some business cards, and a quick run-through of what each company had to offer.
But from the moment I arrived at the Le Royal Méridien, I felt something different. There was an intentionality in the atmosphere. The organizers, a thoughtful team from CNI, greeted me with a warm welcome and a special notepad called an "archifolio." I didn’t know it then, but this notepad would be my key to unlocking the day's true potential.
The event began with a beautiful "honoring the architect" ceremony. I felt a sense of pride and belonging as I stood alongside other architects, receiving a memento and gifts. It was a moment of recognition that made me feel seen and valued for my work.

Then came the real innovation. Instead of us having to walk around a chaotic hall full of stalls, each of the 30 architects was given a dedicated round table. The CNI vendors then came to us, rotating from table to table. It was a brilliant reversal of the usual power dynamic, putting us, the architects, in a position to be approached and informed in a structured, calm environment.
For three and a half hours, I sat at my table, meeting a steady stream of vendors. They came to me, presented their products, and answered my questions. My "archifolio" became a priceless tool for noting down their details. This wasn't just about business; it was a deeply efficient and respectful way of interacting. I was able to gather information, discover new materials, and make connections that would have taken weeks of phone calls and individual meetings.
But the most powerful part of the day was something I never expected. Amidst all the professional interaction, I had a beautiful reunion with some of my college mates. We had lost touch over the years, and seeing their faces, thriving in the same industry, was a moment of pure joy. It reminded me that our professional networks are not just a tool for business growth; they are a community, a support system of people who have walked similar paths.
This event taught me that innovation isn't just about technology; it’s about a human-centered approach to problem-solving. CNI saw a problem—the inefficiency of networking—and solved it with a simple, respectful, and effective model. They created a space where we could connect, not just as professionals, but as people. I left the event feeling empowered, inspired, and deeply grateful for the experience.
My takeaway for all of you is this: Don't underestimate the power of thoughtful connection. In a world that often feels rushed and impersonal, taking the time to design experiences that prioritize efficiency and human dignity can make all the difference. This event was a blockbuster success, not just because of the business connections made, but because it reminded us of the value of our community.
With love and gratitude,
Thamarai
