The Double Burden: Gender Apartheid and Ethnic Persecution in Afghanistan

Today, the soil of Afghanistan is witnessing a systematic erasure that goes beyond gender. As an Afghan woman and activist, I am writing to tell the world that the darkness has deepened. While the world watches the "Gender Apartheid," another silent crime is accelerating: systematic ethnic discrimination and persecution, particularly against the Hazara people and other minority groups.
In recent months, the Taliban’s prejudices have reached an unbearable level. It is no longer just about being a woman; it is about who you are and where you come from. We are witnessing forced displacements, targeted violence, and a deliberate attempt to marginalize entire ethnicities from the social and political fabric of the country.
For the Hazaras, the threat is existential. History is repeating itself in the cruelest way possible. Access to basic resources, safety, and even the right to belong to one’s homeland is being stripped away under a regime that breathes through exclusion and hate.
I am raising my voice from the shadows of exile in Quetta, Pakistan, to ask: How long will the international community remain a bystander to this dual tragedy? We don’t just need your prayers; we need urgent international intervention to stop this ethnic and gender-based persecution. Silence is no longer an option—it is a betrayal of humanity.
