The health of Ghanaians in deprived healthcare communities

A nurse at Basyonde helping us with the screening exercise

Ghanaians who find themselves in communities without CHPS compounds tend to be find it very difficult to acquire quality healthcare services due to both accessibility and affordability.

As a result most people living in the rural parts of the country face sudden deaths due to the fact that they do not get knowledge of their ailments early enough to enable them get treated on time.

Unfortunately, most of these ailments such as Hepatitis are asymptomatic, meaning it is hardly noticed through symptoms at it's early stages. So you tend to realize that most of those in these localities only get to know of their ailments when it becomes very critical and that's when they try to seek medical assistance.

At the end of the day, most of them tend to loose their lives since their ailments were diagnosed late.

I was able to conduct a heath screening exercise in 10 of such communities in the Upper East Region of Ghana and it saw to the screening of over 1000 people on HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and Diebetes.

I partnered with the health directorates in those areas and was supported by individuals to carry out this exercise.

It is prudent that each locality gets screening exercises at least once a year to curbe this problem a d it can be achieved through partnership with individuals, community leaders, NGO'S, government agencies and international agencies.
