The poem: We are Amazing (By Carnia Adams, aged 12 years old)

I shared my connection to Worldpulse with my daughter and told her about the poem we're to write. I never did write one before. She asked me what it was about and I shared with her, it is about giving women and young girls a space to speak out. She then asked if she could write the poem, on behalf of women, as she sees women in South Africa. Here is the peom she wrote.

We are Amazing

I’m a growing woman
And I speak for all
We are amazing and we’ll never fall
Our lives are like a changing story
One minute we’re happy the next we feel scrappy
We’re the most hurt and bruised and often our hearts are broken into two
But we always seem to make it through
Everyday thousands of us are killed,
But people don’t realise they need our skills
We make the best of every situation,
But often people begin to question,
Are they help, are they intellectuals or are they here to make us feel special?
Often men and boys treat us like scrap
But guess what, we taught them how to rap!
We are the domains, and we should be treated so
We’re not here to be hurt or thrown with stones.
We stand up for what we love and hide our hurt with smiles.
People should take a lesson and maybe they’ll reach the mile.
So what I’m saying is simply,
We are amazing!
Just because we’re women
And I’m sure we not an intrusion
All we want is love and respect
Then maybe we’ll fix what is wrecked
We are women, we are hope, we are amazing and we’ll find a way to cope.
