The sad truth about peer group/influence

Let talk about the Courses of Drugs Addiction especially pear group/ influence. You See we seam to forget the role of Peer group especially the bad/negative Impact of Peer group. I remember when We were in Secondary school, Junior Secondary school to be precise thay though us about peer group, in most teaching they emphasis on the negatives impact Of Peer group and thes is because the social interaction with Our Peers has a great impact in our lives, as we grow up we seams to forget about this thing and their important. Now let talk about drug in most Case's they say Poverty is the root Courses of drug Addiction but we have so many kids taking drug. youth from a very Wealthy background are into  drug. Now Forget about the right kids Let talk about the working class, one will say Why do I have to take drug whan I have a job, I have a family  to take Care of, my children, my wife, my mother, my father the list goes on.

but one thing led to another now they are into drug. I am saying this because I have had their stories, talk with them, listen to their Cries and all, Within the western area rural district my team and I want on a Campaign call "drop the Kush and take the tool campaign of which we found out that they drop the tool to take the kush. It funny right best if the truth it heart broken to See Prosperous youths Looses their Path, Their Feature to drug (Kush) in Just four Community within the Western area rural district (Rokel, devil hole, Deep eye water, and Waterloo), we discuss with one thousand Youth yes I mean one thousand youth taking drug in Just Five Community what about the Others Community? The thing is that when we asked them what leads them into drug  90% Said they where influence by their FRIENDS yes by their friend

Some will say I sow my friend taking it and he said I should test and i become addicted with it different scenario with the same root/courses (Peer Influnce) this brings me back to my secondary school days In most cases you hear these words in Junior Secondary school but thet Just three  academic year of which Pupils have the Chance to hear these words may be two times a week which for me I will say it not enough i am a university Student Since l enroll till date have never had the word peer group/influence but in that same university you will see Student drop out because of drug, senior secondary school Pupils are taking drug, so by the time they are in university they have already become Addicted to it.

We have So many youth who have lost their Jobs because of drug, they were working some have a very good job.. Some were Student, some were learning trade, some were with their parent because they are teenagers.

they were force to leave their Home, business, job, and school to be on the Street because of drug that their Friends lead them to so, some have even lost their lives. So what will You Say is poverty responsible for those Youth From a wealthy home/background that are in to drug is Poverty responsible For those teenage girl who live with their  Parent taking care of her, is Poverty responsible the man that had a job that has being sustaining his family for the past ten years that is into drug now? is poverty responsible for that university Student who his/her Parent are paying the fees that all he needs to do is study hard, and now he/she is into drug the answer *NO* I do not denied the fact that poverty is a Course but the root couse of drug Addiction especially youth is Peer group/influence

The Truth of the matter is 75% of families in Sierra Leone directly indirectly affected by Kush

Seven of every 10 household you visit have a Kush victim directly or Indirectly this is to tell you how serious It is So for me Fighting drug (kush)

does not only required the Arresting and detained of drug Seller, because at the end of the day they are been be release from detention go home and continue selling it.

• Also fighting drugs does not only require Arresting the victim or punish them, that why they are called victims  they were taken advantage of at their vulnerable State

• Fighting Kush does not only required Rehabilitation the will go for it the moment they are feet this is because when the go out the  will still meet their friends

Fighting kush does not only required Sensitisation I mean telling them about the bad effect of the drug and how it could lead to early death they will tell you the day I do not smoke I will Start having running nose, bone pain running eyes etc Complaining about different reactions on their body which well also lead then to Smoke again

They will say and I quota

( Sayin if r nor smoke Kush all our me body dae @ r dae feel Pain me head der @ Me eye dae run  wata, me body doe bet bet, but as r Smoke so r dae feel lek wae den gee me I Cartoon money, r dae feel Fine).

Can you imagine!.

With all these been said you all will agree with me that the Arresting of drug seller, beating of drug victims, is not the only way out there is a Saying "if you want to cut of a plant You should try to root it out because for as long as the root is on the ground It will grow a bear

The root Course of drug addictions in sierra leone is peer group/ influence so in other for us to win this fight we most visit our Junior Secondary School day and bring Out what we learn about peer group/influence.

• To Our Parent: some of you might be Crying and acting God what  you did wrong, where you failed as a parent, was It that you did not provide for Your Child, was it that you where so hard on them, was it that you tolerated  them too much you ask all these questions with tears in you eyes but the answer to all these question is that you try, you did your best

There a Saying Show me you Friend I will tell You who you are" .

* To Our Teacher: Evan God in Heaven know that you have play a Pivotal role in the up bring of our children  in this nation but why  limite it to only three academic you twice a week when we can do it for the whole schooling year and every day instead of twice a week  By educating pupils about the bad effect of peer group/ Influnce, by reminding them that their own that they should  not to let any one influence them badly .
