The Silent Lesson
One peaceful afternoon, three children—Adam, Omar, and Yasmine—gathered in the courtyard to perform their prayer. The sun bathed the garden in golden light, and the air was filled with a calm serenity.
As they stood side by side and began their prayer, a small, playful cat wandered in. It meowed and brushed against Adam’s leg. Startled, Adam broke his focus and shouted, “Shoo! Go away!”
Hearing Adam, Omar turned his head mid-prayer and whispered, “Adam! You’re not supposed to speak during prayer!”
Yasmine, distracted by both of them, frowned and murmured under her breath, “They don’t even know how to focus properly during prayer.”
Once they finished, Yasmine spoke up confidently, “I’m the only one who didn’t break the rules during prayer. Both of you got distracted.”
Adam raised an eyebrow and pointed out, “Wait a second, Yasmine. You spoke during prayer too, remember? You were criticizing us!”
Omar nodded in agreement. “Exactly! We all made the same mistake. None of us stayed completely focused.”
Yasmine paused, her face turning red with embarrassment. She realized they were right. “Oh… I guess I was so busy noticing your mistakes that I didn’t even notice my own.”
Adam smiled. “I guess that’s the real lesson: when we judge others, we often end up doing the same thing ourselves.”
Omar added, “Next time, let’s try to focus on our own actions instead of getting distracted by each other.”
The children laughed together, feeling a little wiser. The cat, still lounging nearby, stretched lazily as if to remind them that life’s lessons are sometimes small and simple. From that day on, the children remembered to focus inward, letting their actions speak louder than their words.
