Title: The Secret Battles We All Fight: Why Kindness Is Our Superpower Author: Dr. Anind

Think about walking down a busy street. You see so many faces, each one rushing, laughing, maybe even frowning. But how many of those faces are hiding a secret struggle? How many are carrying a weight you can’t see?

The truth is, every single person we meet is likely dealing with something—a battle we know nothing about.

After living a few years, one thing has become crystal clear to me: be kind, always. You simply never know the story behind someone’s smile. They might be cracking a joke, but inside, their heart could be heavy with sadness.

There’s this beautiful old song that says it perfectly:

“Tum itna jo muskura rahe ho, kya gham hai jisko chhupa rahe ho?”

It means: “You’re smiling so much—what is the sorrow you’re hiding?”

It makes you think, doesn’t it?

We all have our own ways of trying to cope when life gets tough. Maybe we’ve lost someone we loved. Maybe we’re going through a painful breakup. Maybe we’ve faced unfairness or injustice.

Some of us might want to hide away and be alone, maybe even feel angry and blame the world. Others might try to pour all their energy into something else—like work or a hobby—to keep their minds busy.

But here’s the thing we need to remember: just because someone looks okay on the outside doesn’t mean they are. They might be putting on a brave face, trying their best to get through the day, trying to heal in their own way. They might be incredibly strong, carrying a huge burden without letting it show.

And this is especially true when we talk about our mental health. You can’t see feelings like anxiety, sadness, or worry. Someone could be struggling deeply with their mental well-being and still manage to go to work, smile at their friends, and seem “fine.” Their struggles are invisible to the outside world.

That’s why it’s so, so important to never judge anyone. We only see a tiny snapshot of their life. We don’t know their past, their worries, their fears. When we jump to conclusions, we can end up hurting them even more—making them feel even more alone in their pain.

It’s also vital to understand that everyone’s pain is valid. What feels like a huge mountain to one person might seem like a small hill to another. But that doesn’t make the mountain any less real or any less hard to climb for that person.

Your own tough times don’t make someone else’s struggles any less important. Pain isn’t a competition.

So, what can we do? We can choose kindness and understanding. We can try to approach everyone we meet with a little bit of empathy, remembering that they might be carrying a weight we can’t see.

A simple smile, a kind word, a listening ear—these small things can make a world of difference to someone who is quietly struggling.

Let’s try to look beyond the surface. Let’s remember that behind every face, there’s a story—and often, there are battles being fought in silence.

Our superpower is kindness. Let’s use it generously.

You never know whose day you might be making a little bit brighter, whose heavy load you might be helping to carry—just by being kind.

Everyone can feel different pain with the same trauma, and coping mechanisms vary. But it’s all just the iceberg.

So be kind.
