Training Women on Proper Waste Management and Portable Organic Gardening

story

I planned this event and invited some women and young girls in my community. The women came from all walks of life. Our even took place on the 7th of March 2020 from 1pm to 3:30pm. I hosted the event at the balcony of my home for that is the space I could provide. The evening started with an opening prayer, committing everything we had to do or learn in the hands of God. After the prayer, the participants were then asked to introduce themselves.
When all the participants had introduced themselves, I then told them who I was and why I invited them. I talked about World Pulse, what it is about, who can belong, and then proceeded in helping them to join the World Pulse community by logging up. I shared my personal Wi-Fi with those who did not have internet connection in their android phones and helped them step by step until they had all joined. Initially I sent word to all those I had invited to create Gmail accounts if they did not already have one so that logging up on World Pulse would be easier. They all did and so my job was facilitated. I also told them that anyone who works hard on World Pulse can become an ambassador and that by this time next year I expected all of us to be ambassadors spreading the word about World Pulse to a wider community. I asked them to tell their friends and sisters about this platform. There were 13 participants all together, three of which were kids. Five invited ladies did not make it to the event.
After they had all logged up, I gave the theme 2020 IDW theme: “I am Generation equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”. One of the participants talked on Gender equality and advised the women to use technology for self-empowering projects such as marketing and learning.
I gave a talk on environmental care, hygiene and the importance of organic gardening. We as women need to take the lead in environmental care as well as healthy living campaigns in order to change our communities. Thanks to the honorarium I got from world Pulse, I distributed trash cans to the women and young girls and taught them how to separate bio waste from the non-bio. I also encourage them to start backyard potable gardens by giving them seedlings of cabbage, celery, basil, and shallots to go and plant. I will visit their gardens from time to time as a follow up of the project.
The event ended with some light refreshment. The participants were very thankful and appreciated me for the knowledge I had shared with them.
Because of the crisis in our part of the country, not all the women who were invited were able to attend the event, but I still reached out to them via telephone and whatsapp to brief them on the event. I will guide them later on to join World Pulse.
God loves you and me.
