Unpopular opinion: telling people to fix their posture is nothing but control tactics

Have you ever heard of people going on how slouching is bad for your health and if you’re not standing or sitting the right way, you’ve got a one way ticket to lifetime injuries?
Well, that’s the logic of “good posture”. Apparently, there’s only one right way to stand, sit, walk, lie down, etc. and that’s to remain as tall as a stick and stiff as a stone. In other words, so-called science is trying to turn us humans into robots. Then I suppose they want us to talk like robots, no wait, it’s already happening!
Then there’s the methods that supposedly “fix” your “poor posture”. And when you dare tell them trying to do “good” posture makes your body uncomfortable, they’ll just tell you “that’s just what your muscles are used to because of your constant slouching, if you just simply train them to go the right way, you’ll eventually become more comfortable and have a healthier body”.
Blah blah blah, we get it, just tell me you don’t like the way I live my life and get it over with! Last time I checked, you’re not the one in charge of my body! And when it’s telling me it’s uncomfortable, you bet your ass I’m not going to ignore it! On the contrary to your statement, ignoring your body’s needs is far unhealthier.
Honestly, I’m sick of hearing people going on over how having “good” posture is so important. They’ll tell you that fixing your body is so simple and if it’s not working, you just got to keep trying. It’s the same logic as the diet culture trend: if your body isn’t the shape you want, that’s your own fault. Ah yes, please do tell me how the fat in my body that YOU don’t like is MY fault, all while ignoring the fact that bodies are diverse and metabolism is much different in women since we require more fat to feed our children.
It’s also like the PDEE calculator telling us that men need to eat more while ignoring a majority of those who easily get sick from overeating in order to meet those needs, and women need to eat less despite a majority of us feel weak from not eating enough while trying to ignore our hunger. I, for one, can guarantee this is my experience.
In other words, you can’t simply “fix” your posture. Like I said before, our bodies are diverse and will develop in ways that one cannot imagine. We sit or stand a certain way because that’s what makes us comfortable. That’s how we were raised from birth. Trying to “fix” that part of us does more harm than good. It’s stressful and damaging to our health because we’re trying to be something we’re not.
It is nothing but control. And it does far more damage than anything else. So please do yourselves a favor and stop telling me that I should only eat a certain amount of calories and have nothing else even though my stomach is still growling. Stop telling me to walk and talk a certain way as if I’m a robot that abides to your own selfish desires. And for fuck’s sake already, just let me slouch in peace! Please!
