UPDATE OCTOBER 5, 2024 on "1,000 Voices Heard" Initiative started in Jan 2024

Since sharing my vision in a LinkedIn audio room in June 2024, we've expanded our outreach through targeted social media campaigns designed to engage people globally, particularly those struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, autism, loneliness, and PTSD. These campaigns feature stories from participants, sharing their journeys and coping strategies, fostering a sense of community and encouraging others to join. With a donated website and Google Documents lead magnets, we’ve seen significant growth in our peer support groups.

In July 2024, we introduced 7 weekly virtual peer support groups tailored to these specific mental health conditions: depression, anxiety/social anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, autism, loneliness, and PTSD, running 3 one-hour sessions per week per group, totaling 21 peer support group sessions weekly. These sessions are held virtually on Zoom, making it easier for participants to attend from around the world. I personally facilitate all of these peer support group sessions as well as individual peer support sessions. This direct involvement allows me to maintain a close connection with our community and ensure the support offered is compassionate, personalized, and effective.

Peer support is at the core of our work. It involves individuals with shared experiences providing emotional and practical help to one another. This approach empowers participants to support each other through their challenges, knowing that they are not alone. The support we offer is peer-based, meaning it's grounded in shared understanding and experience rather than clinical advice.

When individuals reach out for peer support, I assign them to the appropriate group based on the condition they identify with. Participants are welcome to share their mental health challenges, and I make group assignments accordingly. However, it is important to note that I am not a medical doctor. I am a neurodivergent person with 30 years of experience raising and homeschooling my three autistic, ADHD children, and I have a lifetime of experience with bipolar disorder in my family. My understanding comes from personal experience and being immersed in the mental health space for decades.

Additionally, I hold a BA in Psychology and am a lifelong learner in the mental health field, constantly seeking out new knowledge to better support the individuals who come to us for peer support. Despite my background, I do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Instead, I provide peer support and guidance based on the conditions people disclose themselves. The group they join is based on their own self-identification of their needs.

To enhance the quality of our peer support, we’ve partnered with mental health advocates and professionals who provide ongoing support to me and help me keep on top of things. Additionally, we have two doctors from Nigeria serving on our Board of Directors, contributing their medical expertise to strengthen our outreach.

Customer acquisition has been a vital part of our strategy, and we’ve seen success through social media outreach and word of mouth from participants who share their positive experiences. Additionally, the Google search ads provided through our Google Ad Grant fill many gaps in medical systems, particularly in impoverished countries, where we might be the only accessible form of care for many individuals. While we do not replace medical interventions, we help people find a sense of community. When individuals find community, they often stabilize emotionally, regain their voice, and become more active in their lives. Some participants even find peace as a result.

We’ve engaged volunteer virtual assistants to help us post to social media, manage massive emails, and handle calendar management for everything we do. Their efforts are key to helping those with mental challenges engage and flourish in our virtual peer support community. Our approach is structured, with clear communication and accountability, ensuring every participant receives the peer support they need when they need it.

We've added the Business Hub, also known as Go High Level, to manage social media postings and create email lists, ensuring that our members receive updates on the peer support groups they are interested in. We also acquired the Google Ad Grant, which provides us with $10,000 worth of Google Ads every month, helping us extend our reach globally. This continuous grant allows us to target new audiences, share our message of hope, and invite people worldwide to join our peer support community.

Additionally, we use WhatsApp to reach people in countries with limited internet access, providing an accessible platform for those with connectivity challenges.

To date, we have seen 741 people who have come to talk about their mental health or challenges.

This number is tracked personally by me, Lorelei, and is based solely on their initial visit. Participants often return for additional peer support, but only their first visit is counted in our outreach tally. We aim to maintain the integrity of our 1000 Voices Heard initiative by ensuring that repeat visits do not impact the overall count. Every individual who comes to us is encouraged to return as often as needed, but our official count reflects the first time we connect with someone.

We are on track to meet and even exceed our initiative of 1000 Voices Heard.
