Collaboration

As Celestial Crafters reaches its five-month milestone, we find ourselves reflecting on an eventful journey filled with hard-won lessons, rewarding partnerships, and an unshakeable commitment to empowering young women in tech. Our mission is bold: to break barriers and champion diversity in the tech space, focusing on women’s inclusion and skill development. Here’s an honest look back at our journey so far highlighting the challenges, wins, and the key moments that have shaped our trajectory.
Key Wins and Milestones
1.A Major Breakthrough with AiduCreate and Oracle Foundation
One of our proudest moments was being selected by AiduCreate and the Oracle Foundation for our first pitching opportunity. Out of 50 applicants, we were thrilled to reach the grand jury round and ultimately place in the top five. This wasn’t just a recognition of our vision but a critical learning experience. The rigorous process taught us how to refine our pitch, tell our story authentically, and clarify our goals to resonate with larger audiences. The grant competition boosted our credibility and showed us that our work has the potential to create lasting impact. We’ve walked away with insights, confidence, and a broader network that we are leveraging to grow Celestial Crafters.
2.Forging Partnerships with Aligned Organizations
We are looking to seek collaboration with SheCodes Africa, Tech Sisters and Local Initiatives that align with our mission and initiatives. Through this partnership, we will be able to extend our reach, conducting skill-based training for young women and introducing them to opportunities in tech. Together, we’ll create safe spaces for learning and it’s encouraging to see more young women in our community explore careers in tech. This partnership is a powerful reminder of how aligning with like-minded organizations can amplify impact.
3.Creating Change Through Community Outreach
Celestial Crafters has reached over 120 young girls through our outreach programs, which include school visits where we provide mentorship, sanitary towels, and other essentials. These efforts aren’t just about providing supplies—they’re about inspiring young girls to see themselves in tech roles and creating opportunities where they might not have thought possible. Each interaction fuels our drive, reminding us that we’re on the right path to breaking down long-standing gender barriers in tech.
4.Recognition in the Industry
Our journey has attracted attention from several respected organizations and competitions, which has been both humbling and energizing. We’ve applied to initiatives like Global Entrepreneurship Pitch Festival, we got selected but the pitching is happening live in Nigeria its going to be a problem with the airfare from Kenya to Nigeria the cheapest round flight on November 24, 2024, starts at approximately KES 133,450 on Kenya Airways for economy class, a crazy opportunity but i have explained i'm just a girl and maybe just maybe they will allow me to pitch virtually. Additionally, i Serah Kamau Fonder Celestial Crafters i'm pursuing other high-impact opportunities which i believe will help us amplify our impact while giving is recognitions to keep us motivated and remind us that our work is resonating beyond our immediate community.
Challenges and Growth Areas
1.Finding the Right Balance Between Quality and Affordability
Feedback from clients about our pricing has been a critical reality check. We’re committed to offering quality services, but as a startup, it’s a fine balance to maintain. These insights are driving us to explore more flexible pricing options that still uphold our values. Our goal is to ensure that we’re accessible to our clients while delivering the caliber of work that builds our reputation.
2.Navigating the Lean Team Dynamic
With limited resources, we’re learning to do more with less, but it’s not without its challenges. Streamlining our team to focus on core roles web/mobile development app development, UI/UX design, Website Development, AI Solutions and Blockchain Technology and has been essential for sustainability. While it means our team members wear multiple hats, this approach allows us to concentrate on delivering excellent service and upholding our commitment to quality.
3.Overcoming Bias in the Tech Industry
As a women-led, women-only tech company, Celestial Crafters frequently faces assumptions about our capabilities. While these biases are disheartening, they also fuel our resolve to succeed. I the founder of Celestial Crafters, i have faced these challenges head-on since entering the male-dominated fields of automotive engineering and industrial mechanics at a young age. My experiences drive our company’s vision and prove that women belong in every aspect of tech.
Lessons Learned and Looking Forward
1.Making Every Connection Count
Through our interactions with partners, mentors, and clients, we’re learning the value of relationship-building. Every pitch, every program application, and every school visit has been an opportunity to grow, connect, and gain insights that we bring back to our work at Celestial Crafters. Our experience with the AiduCreate and Oracle Foundation pitch, for instance, showed us the importance of concise communication and the power of a compelling story.
2.Balancing Ambition with Self-Care
The startup journey is exhilarating but relentless. Maintaining our commitment to empowering women and creating change while taking care of ourselves and each other is something we’re learning to navigate. Burnout is a real risk, but it’s something we are addressing through intentional breaks and fostering a supportive work environment. We want every team member to be in this for the long haul.
3.Pushing Through Setbacks to Build Resilience
Every setback has been a lesson in resilience. While financial challenges and operational hurdles are common for any startup, our unique mission to empower young women in tech adds a layer of complexity. Yet, these challenges keep us focused on our purpose and our potential to make a lasting impact.
A Bright Road Ahead
Our first five months have been a testament to the power of persistence, the importance of community, and the value of partnerships. Celestial Crafters has grown from an idea into a movement dedicated to advancing women in tech, and we’re just getting started.
