story
I am leading a project where by I am training girls with hearing impairment who are engaged in income generating activities to be able to use technology to sell their products to the public. This project aims at improving on their level of income (economic empowerment) thus going a long way to reduce or stop Gender based violence. It is also a way to prevent the risk of Covid19 especially as stay and work from home most of the time and only go out to buy raw materials deliver their products.
In this project we use technology in that girls with hearing impairment are thought how to use labels, facebook, whatsapp status to advertise and sell their products. They are thought and encouraged to place labels on their products so they can be able to debate cost by text as many people do not understand sign language thus this technological Apps facilitate communication and sales.
This project will impact a great number of persons with hearing impairment. It’s a training of trainers project and therefore we are sure knowledge acquired will be duplicationed. Which means these girls who were trained will go out and train others. An estimated number of about 50 girls with hearing impairment will be impacted
To be able to reach my goal I will need more capacity building on using other technological Apps such as instagram, twitter etc so I can be able to pass on the knowledge. Will also need ICT kits as some of them do not have phones or computers. Will also need to organize refreasal courses so we can evaluate and improve on their output.
The project has recorded a considerable amount of success especially as these girls are now more focus on using social media to improve on their lives rather than posting irrelevant articles. Many more persons with hearing impairment advertise their products online than it was before. Many more of the girls are saving their profits ( Njangie or monthly contributions) in our monthly meetings The project has also helped these girls to be able and read more online especially about the covid19 pandemic and so are sharing a lot of relevant information on our different forums or networks.
