VOF Week 1: (The Whole World is Now Accessible)

Web 2.0 has opened doors that many of us never knew existed, and ushered in a light that has given hope to many. Ideas have been shared, friendships have been erected, people have been connected, and problems have been solved.

When I signed into world pulse, the response was overwhelming, and the enthusiasm was contagious, I wanted to write, write, and read. I enjoyed writing of my experiences, as much as I enjoyed reading of those of others. I was challenged, and motivated by the writings and the ideas. In less than a month I had a glimpse of life beyond that which I was familiar with.

Web 2.0 has reduced the size of the world and made it accessible on the palm of the hand, how exciting, I can travel to Europe, Asia and the rest of the world and meet people, feel their experiences, and share their tears and laughter.

We live in an era which is information driven, and web2.0 has made access to information easily available. Globalisation has erased geographical and physical boundaries and Web 2.0 is one of the tools of globalisation. As women, by exploiting this technology, the global women empowerment movement will be a force that will rock the world to its core, and achieve remarkable results.

One of the major problems faced by the women empowerment movement especially for those in developing countries is the lack of resources: resources in terms of financial and information. Though access to Web 2.0 has not been in a grand scale yet, especially for the women, there has been effort and progress has been made.

Web 2.0 connects women cross borders who share similar challenges, and through it they can motivate each other and brainstorm on innovative sustainable ideas. Resources can be sought and found. It provides a platform where different communities can meet. Women can celebrate and struggle together despite race and ethnicity, age and geographical location.

Time is a scarce resource and the needs and wants of mankind have become many, women spend more and more time trying to survive in a patriarchal society. Many women have achieved a lot, but their stories have not been told, web 2.0 makes this possible. I am a strong believer of the need for mentorship. I know in my country there is an urgent need for mentors, and I also do appreciate the fact that successful women can be very busy, but mentorship can be done through Web 2.0. Let young girls and young women meet and talk with already successful women, online, why not?

With this technology, there should be no looking back for the women movement, yes access to it may be a challenge but no stable empire can be build in one day. Let the women global empowerment movement, move with what it has in the moment, and through it achievements, grow,grow and grow.
