Equity – The key is empowerment! (/strong)
My vision is a world of equity . The key to create this world of equity is ‘empowerment’ . This includes the use of media in communication initiatives for development.
Empowerment emerges from particular places, families, friends and communities. The relationships and the networking become the sources which gives the symbolic and psychological power to this movement of empowerment. The web of relationships forms the cultural context, which I value most in the empowerment process.
My interest is in empowering people specially the marginalized through the use of effective communication for development . I would say, empowerment is the affirming of the dignity and value of one’s own identity, in specific cultural contexts….
Empowerment through citizens’ media is what I have always wanted to engage on, where local groups produce their own productions through their own initiatives. In approaches to empowerment, I would like to explore the methodologies of empowering women in the development process. This I consider as important, because women are blocked by arbitrary cultural discourses that divert resources away from women or prevent them from getting into decision making positions.
As a correspondent I would like to write thought provocating articles centred on the role of women in the domestic and public sphere, focusing on the impediments and their strengths. Further, I would like to explore the possibilities of giving a voice to the women in the grassroots to articulate their views and expressions. Specially women who have no opportunity to participate in stimulating discussions that could mainstream them to the decision making process.
At present, I am privileged and excited to be part of the WorldPulse that helped me to open up with my experiences and thoughts, learn from the experiences from the others and use the most innovative and interactive tool in communication.
Further I see PulseWire as facilitating competencies of women in the production of their own stories filled with real life experiences into a local and international context. It facilitates networking alliances and develop capacities as ‘actors’ in the popular movement of empowerment. Above all, it provides a space for the articulation of competencies like in the lives of women – in their personal, family and community level.
. I am privileged to be a part of ‘World Pulse’…..
