Voice for Change

Change and progress go hand in hand. We face a lot of obstacles in trying to create change in our different communities. Coming closer to home, fear of the unknown is one of the things which are a barrier to change. People are much safer to be in their comfort zones hence they do not accept change. The other thing is resistance to change. In communities this is a barrier in the sense that people want everything done the way it had always been done before. Inferiority complex is also making change for the better difficult. Some people maybe because of the so called names given to them or what they society made them to believe about themselves feel that they are lesser creatures. They feel that there are people who are better than them and hence they cannot be seen as the change makers. Lack of communication is a huge hindering block. It casts so many shadows of doubt, uncertainties and it creates confusion which makes people not to believe in a newly adopted idea no matter how good. Prejudice is also a contributing factor. We have people who are looked down upon just because of where they come from or their religion. These people might be a force to reckon when it comes to managing change in communities but they are left out or their ideas are not taken to the next level just because they are the ones who suggested for a particular change. In Africa, the major enemy where change is concerned is illiteracy. Imagine tiring to be at the same level of thinking with someone, trying to help the person read and other things. There is a lot of illiteracy and this is hindering change. Someone may not even be able to read a simple written pamphlet or let alone sign for a good cause.
These barriers are a milestone but can be overcome. The most important thing to do is communicate changes in a clear and concise way. Clear lines of communication must be left open and people are supposed to contribute their ideas without fear of prejudice. This can be achieved by forming groups for a certain cause and let those in the community who know how best to deal with that situation solve it by asking a simple question and start an ideas sharing conversation. I would also try to solve community issues with peers in my locality since we understand the problems better by virtue of us being on the ground. Socialize, socialize and identify needy areas through socialization.
With the mushrooming of so many internet cafes and cell phone which have access to internet growing everyday and hopefully packages from the service providers for such services the use of Pulse Wire is a promising one.
