We drove to Savena.

3 hours from the DIVAforEQUALITY Hive in Nadi town is the province of Ra. It's where we headed today.

Savena Devi recalls Tropical Cyclone Winston that ripped the roof off her home in 2016. The night of the category 5 hurricane, she and several others evacuated to one of the few hurricane proof homes in their community. She says they are still repairing and recovering 8 years on.

We meet in what was once her garage with members of her local club, and she relates her journey with DIVA for Equality FIJI  since she joined a 2019 rally and the visit from the DIVA freedom bus.

An active member of DIVA's #Poverty2Power and Agroecology programmes Savena is eager to have more women join the DIVA network as they see the benefit of not just managing backyard gardens but also the agroecology approach:

"(They see) now I depend on my garden and I'm making my own manure; I've made #neem and #saijjanleaf herbal spray (because) we have to protect the insects too" she tells Keepingthefaith Kado

Savena's story will feature in the film, which is produced with the support of Pacific Island Feminist Alliance for Climate Justice
