Web 2.0 and Digital Media; My Window to the World

To me, Web 2.0 is a meeting place where no boundaries exist, where I do not require to book for an appointment or scramble for an invitation to attend. Time limit is also not such a hustle as I can wake up in the middle of the night, be it to feed my baby, or just to answer a call of nature, or even when suffering a bout of insomnia, as long as I have access to the internet, I can participate and share information with people from across the world.
With Web 2.0, I can take part in all the processes of conceptualizing an idea into a consumable content, palatable for interaction with anyone online in my network.
Community leaders at the lowest rung of the ladder like myself, have been empowered with skills and the opportunity to interact with and share the challenges in their communities with other women oceans away and the world at large, as events unfold.
Web 2.0 has also amplified the voices of women, which are picked up by other women and also men, a phenomenon that has necessitated change via mass action and revolutions.
Many bills have also been signed in favour of women empowerment through a genesis of Web 2.0.
Women causes continue to get funding and the expertise to realize not only their goals, but aspirations and visions for their communities too.
More power to women, because, as it is, getting a helping hand for projects in their communities is easier, since in the course of interaction and exposure of the need in their communities, it is way much easier to get the solutions they seek, unlike before when one needed to send volumes of project proposals.
Being the founder of the Centre for Disadvantaged Girls, Kenya, Web 2.0 and Digital Media are mighty empowerment tools as it is now very easy for me to bring forth the nature of our Centre, its vision, mission and even its needs, to thousands of people all at the same time.
I am also empowered with friends from all walks of life, an interaction with whom has made me realize and discover that women are the same and face the exact same anxieties, needs and problems worldwide.
Am empowered to help a woman wherever she is, in getting solutions for the need or problems in her community, as I borrow more of her wisdom to solve my own issues.
With Digital Media, am more assertive to raise my voice in various platforms and fora like petitions, walks and other protests and marches for not only issues that concern women, but the welfare of my country, my sons, nephews, brothers and fathers too, because when all is said and done, there can never be a nation without women. We are the vertebrae that holds our countries together. Lets be our sisters’ keepers, mourning together when death strikes, as we rejoice and ululate in celebration when a new life comes forth.
Together, stronger, forever, united womenfolk.
