Webinar on "Flourishing Futures Nourishing Biodiversity Now"
The World Environment Day (WED) is an annual celebration / campaign which have taken place simultaneously around the world on June 5th, every year. It was also celebrated by Brahkumaris Nepal with the coordination of Ministry of Forest and Environment (MOFE) Nepal, Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) Hetauda and Children and Youth Organizations in Nepal. The theme for 2020 was ‘Time for Nature” whereas the theme of Brahmakumari Nepal was "Flourishing Futures Nourishing Biodiversity Now".
The speakers of the event were BK Bijaya Sikdel from Brahkumaris Hetauda, Dr. Maheswar Dhakal -Joint Secretary of MOFE, Prof. Dr. Prof. Balaram Bhatta - The Dean of AFU, Dr. Anita Shrestha -Post Doctorate Research Fellow from Kathmandu Forestry College, Nepal, BK Sister Jyoti, BK Chandan Shrestha, Mr. Kishor Parajuli Environment Engineer/Director, Drishti Enviroment Consulting, Mr Durga Nath Dahal, Social Activist, also a Founder Chairman of Nawajiwan Paropakar Sanstha Environment Education, and Mr. KP Khanal,Young Social Activist . The programe was conducted on Zoom and it was live on Facebook too. More than 5000 people watched the webinar and still the viewers are increasing. The program was moderated by Mr Newpran Nepal.
Participants at the event were welcomed by the Moderator with beautiful poem related to environment and biodiversity. At first, Mr B.K Vijay Raj Sigel, a Raj yoga Teacher and International Motivational Speaker, explained how biodiversity is affected in every 10 seconds by different mankind activities. Further he added that lack of values and inspiration in the mind, negative thoughts and selfish motives, various types of pollution are the major things which has been affecting biodiversity badly. In addition, he gave example of green parks with different species plants which was managed in the Hetauda for save mother earth. Likewise, Dr. Dhakal -Joint Secretary and Chief of the Climate Change Management Division at the MOFE, highlighted importance of biodiversity and the initiative taken by the MOFE. Prof. Bhatta viewed that youth have greater responsibilities to protect earth and biodiversity so that the live planet –Earth can hand over to the future generation without damaging its ecosystem and fulfilling today need of the humankind making better place for all living being. Likewise, Dr. Shrestha highlighted the linkage between spirituality and nature conservation, cultural and religious values of biodiversity in the globe. She also presented importance of shatwik yogic cultivation.
BK Sister Jyoti who was also a Nepal First floriculture Entrepreneur, talked about a significance of flora and fauna with spiritual connection. A beautiful game was demonstrated by Motivational Trainer Mr. Chandan Shrestha, which helped to make program more interesting and it also helped to give awareness to preserve biodiversity.
Environment Engineer Mr. Kishor Parajuli who is director of Drishti Environment Consulting, USA presented his presentation about Micro Plastic. It was an interesting subject too. He told how we intake plastic every day. He has given solution to use bio-degradable plastic etc.
Additionally, Mr Durga Nath Dahal (Social Activist and Founder Chairman of Nawajiwan Paropakar Sanstha) shared his experience how he rescued animals living on the streets, how he fed birds and animals and other social activities during lockdown. Furthermore, Mr. KP Khanal (Young Social Activist) shared his experience about a journey towards environment cleanliness and greenery campaign. Question answer session made the webinar more lively and interesting. Finally, BK Jyoti taught to the participants about environmental friendly meditation and organized joint meditation and providing power to nature, plants, animals and all.
To sum up, the webinar urged participants to look beyond June 5th of every year and appreciate the fact that there is only on earth and that needs to save from physical, ethical and spiritual duty from human being.
