When Five Women Showed Up, Starting a Digital Revolution in a Small Room

Seeking
Collaboration

In a small room filled with hope but lacking equipment, we started something powerful.
Our association (Association MamynySoa) recently organized a digital training session designed specifically for 10 women in our community. We hoped it would be a first step toward bridging the digital divide and giving women the skills they need to thrive in today's world. We began with only 10 women as we don't have yet laptops.
The Challenge of Participation:
We reached out, encouraged, and invited but on the day of the training, only five women came.
Why?
Because they don’t have computers. And for many, the idea of learning digital skills without owning a device felt overwhelming or even pointless.
Meanwhile, three men arrived, not invited, but eager. Each brought his own laptop, ready to learn. Their presence reminded us of something important: men often have more access, more freedom, and more tools. But it also showed us that the desire to learn is everywhere.
And still the women came.

Learning Without Laptops
Those five women who showed up may not have had their own devices, but they brought something stronger: determination.
We shared what little equipment we had. They listened, asked questions, practiced on borrowed keyboards. And by the end, they were smiling, proud, and more confident than when they arrived.
They told us:
“We want to continue. Even if we don’t have computers now, we are ready to learn.”
Our Space is Small — But Our Vision is Big
Our association operates from a very small room. It's not a proper classroom, and we don't yet have the tools we need. But what we do have is a plan:
We're working to buy new tables to better welcome our learners
We're actively looking for ways to get laptops or computers, especially for women
We’re committed to continuing the training, one step at a time
Why This Matters
This experience reminded me that access is not equal. Even when women are willing, they often hesitate not because they don’t want to learn, but because they feel unprepared, or unseen, or unsupported.
But these women, they are the start of something. After the training, they shared their satisfaction with their peers and other women in the community. As a result, more women have expressed interest and are now eager to join. They are waiting for the association to continue the sessions and we are confident that we will.
A small group, a small space, a small training, yes.
But also: big courage, big dreams, and a big need.
Of course that we need support not just in materials, but in belief. We need more people who see the power of digital access for women, especially in underserved communities.
If you’re reading this, I hope you’ll remember:
Sometimes, five women in a small room are enough to start a revolution.
