When My Body Broke Down, the Earth Held Me

Self-Care is Earth-Care
I didn’t know I was breaking… until I couldn’t get out of bed.
As a woman always "strong for everyone," I wore my exhaustion like a badge of honour. I said yes to every request, every responsibility until my body said no. I was burnt out, in pain, and completely disconnected from myself.
That’s when I turned to something ancient. Something silent. Something I had ignored for too long: the Earth.
I began by stepping outside barefoot. The feeling of soil under my feet was grounding in a way I had never known. I sat by a neem tree, closed my eyes, and for the first time in months… I breathed. Deeply.
Nature didn’t ask me for anything. It didn’t rush me. It simply held me gently, patiently while I learned how to care for myself again.
That’s when I understood: self-care and Earth-care are deeply connected. When we heal ourselves, we find the energy to protect the planet. And when we connect with the Earth, we remember who we are! not just caretakers, but part of the whole.
Now I grow my own herbs. I walk every day under the open sky. I teach the children around me how to care for plants, how to respect nature, how to listen to silence.
In a world that never stops talking, the Earth whispers the truth: healing is slow, sacred
, and shared.
