When Someone Is Grieving, What They Need Most Is Not Perfect Words — It Is Presence

Grief changes the way people experience the world.

A person who has experienced pregnancy loss, stillbirth, infant loss or the loss of a loved one is not only dealing with the pain of the loss itself they are learning how to live with a reality they never expected.

Many people want to support someone who is grieving, but they do not know where to begin.

The truth is, we do not need perfect words.

Sometimes support looks like:

💜 Listening without judgement

💜 Allowing someone to remember and talk about their loss

💜 Checking in even after everyone else has moved on

💜 Saying the name of the person or baby they lost

💜 Simply being present

During World Breastfeeding Week, let us celebrate mothers while also holding space for mothers whose journeys were marked by loss.

Their stories matter.

Their babies matter.

Their grief matters.
