Where and How does it happen?

Where and How does Sexual and Gender Based Violence happen to women, girls and boys?

In the past five years I commenced the research to speak against and to prevent sexual and all other forms of Gender Based Violence.

Today I want to speak on my findings about where and how these violence happens.

There are different types of sexual and Gender Based violence. But I am talking about Sexual harassment and rape. These happens frequently amongst girls of age 25 and below.

These violence happens more in the homes, schools, market place and play places.

How does it happen, when lustfulness comes to the mind of the opposite sex. In majority of occurrences is Pepetrated by the male Gender.

Sexual harassment and rape is any sexual act without consent of the other partner.

In my community, Delta State, Nigeria, girls that are raped in the market and in schools, confessed that they are coerced into these experiences due to peer group influence. They followed a friend to the back of the classroom where boys had sex with them serially in groups.

Other places where rape happens is in homes and in the market places. When girls go to hawk edible items and at homes where the sexual Pepetrators spend quality time at home with the girls.

So the how and the where rape happens can be prevented by teachers, parents and the girls themselves.

The government has played their part by passing the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.

The challenge now is that the people do not know what is in the VAP Law.

To end these violence against young girls and women in Delta State, a State wide Committee, coordinated by my humble self, was inaugurated on 7th February,2022 by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs Social and Community Development, Delta State, Mrs Flora Alantan. We are indeed grateful to the Delta State Government for the political will to eliminate all forms of violence. During this 2022 International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation. FGM is a form of violence against women. It is still celebrated  by some persons and the mandate of my committee is to find and report and prosecute Pepetrators of VAW

I am excited with the government backing for this my passion to empower women and girls and to Eliminating SGBV amongst vulnerable girls in Delta State.

The mandate of this Committee led by my network Association Against Child Sexual and Gender Based Violence is to organize sensitization, Advocacy activities and to report to the Ministry and to society. My Committee is set up and to function on a zero budget. Yet I am excited. Because I believe, that we commenced these function this February. We are open to Partnership and collaboration.
