Women are we toys? From where I stand certainly no

We were born women, that is God’s will and accepted. What kind of women should we be then, the choice is mine, the choice is yours, the choice is ours. Look at my choice and then let’s decide to stop being toys for men. I have studied to the level of an M.A degree, but all efforts to have a government job were seemingly unsuccessful, asked me why, because I did not submitted myself as a toy for men in exchange of a government job. Years back when I just had my first degree, I started seeking for a job, in the process I met with other ladies who were also job seekers , we all shared this experience where directors always want to have sex in the process before offering a job. I told myself that I rather remain jobless than to submit to that kind of condition and I stood my grounds, i did not have sex but I had a job. As you might want to know, am also the coordinator of Hope for Youth Network association and the gospel of “women stand your grounds” is what I preach to young girls who are seeking jobs.

In time past, the place of a women was reserve for the kitchen; girl children were not send to school; women were not given post of responsible in the government or were they part of policy making; a girl child could not succeed the father, or own property, women were not allow to speak when men were around, we can go on and on. This stigma has stopped many women from public speaking especially the grassroot women. With all this, when am connected to internet I always search for what women associations do in the world so that I can copy and pass on the knowledge to empower the young girls that we are dealing with in our association, one day I came across world pulse web site but I was reluctant to read further because I thought it was only for professional journalists. Recently a kabissa member posted the call for VOF application to me, and I said this world pulse I had come across this organization once let me take time to see what is there, behold the content was rich and I just said “this is space for freedom of speech for women”

I thought by applying for VOF programme , I will connect to many women and we will share experience on global issues and if I happen to be part of the thirty, I will be greatly empowered and because citizen journalism is not popular in my country, I will partner with the ministry of women’s empowerment and we will do great things for women in Cameroon.
