WOMEN VS VOTING!

Recently we conducted an election at our school. The pupils were to apply in different positions in the cabinet of the school. The girls gave in more applications as compared to boys. When it came to voting, boys did not write the names of their favourite aspirants on the vote paper. They wrote other things apart from the names of aspirants as compared to girls, who wrote the names os their aspirants with keen interest.

When the votes were being counted, the girls sat quite following each step of the event while the boys could be seen playing with mables, stones, moving up and down, mummuring etc. Boys entirely showed no interest in what was taking place. The few who could follow were disturbed and distracted by others.

Tallying was done and guess what, the girls had taken most of the positions!

I took this scene back to my community. For example, IEBC is conducting registration of voters now. The number of persons turning up to be registered are men! Those who are coming up in mass to either change their voting stations or enquire about the process are men! Those who have taken the initiative to speak loudly about the process are men! Those who are rushing to take ID Cards to enable them register as voters are men!

The iron with the registration is that most of the clerks are WOMEN! i Did investigation to find out why by asking some women why they were not taking up the exercise and their reasons were appling! Have a view:-

  • What will they give me!

  • After all am married, my husband will vote!

  • That clerk i hate her!

  • Even if i vote or not, they will rig the elections!

  • am busy!

  • What does it concern me!

  • Who are you working for? You don't have something to do rather than walking around aimlessly!

From the comments, we can see where our women are regarding voting.

How i wish, they would embrace the 21st Century upcoming women, like our girls in Chimoi MHM and exercise their powers of voting!

So i have taken this initiative, to use my girls to reach the women and encourage them to vote! Encourage them to register as voters! Encourage them to take up ID Cards!
