Workshop on Digital storytelling

The Islamabad Executive Lions club conducted a workshop from 21st-22nd September 2013 on digital story telling in Islamabad Pakistan. The curriculum of the workshop was taken from the module 4 of world Pulse VOF correspondent.

The main aim of the workshop was to teach different tools to women for digital story telling. As we live in the age of digital media it is very important for women to learn these tools. As in Pakistan the women rights are mostly suppressed and crushed, In order to make them speakup for their rights we taught them the tools to makeup stories which they want to share with the world. It is not a onetime process the participants are assigned to teach these tools to atleast five more ladies. We had a screening in the end of the workshop in which all the participants showed their digital stories. The guests from different non profitable firms and government attended the screening as well as spoke to the audience about empowering women.

The main trainer of the workshop was Mahrukh Pasha, World Pulse Media Correspondent from Pakistan.
Eight women were facilitated by the facilitator. All made their digital stories on different issues of society. One of the participant "Taskeen Mansoor" expressed her opinion about the workshop in these words

"I feel strongly about interfaith-cultural harmony and have been part of campaigns and tours with regards to this sensitive issue but I never imagined how a short video on celebrating diversity that I had made for this workshop would become so powerful in generating debates around my personal, social and professional network. In this age of technology, it is amazing how simple technical tools can be employed to create a compelling and creative piece of expression for advocating about something you feel passionate about. Apart from sharing my personal experience in my own narration with the audience at large, the video making process helped me explore myself".

It was a great effort by Islamabad Executive Lions club and they will be continuing such workshops in future as well.Specially the northern parts of Pakistan where Talibans have made it very hard for women to get education.
